Dear Mr. Immelt,
I am writing to urge you to cease your lobbying the government to set limits for carbon dioxide emissions because these regulations will lead to higher energy prices. While I applaud your effort to design more fuel efficient products and research into alternative energy sources, I’m opposed to your scheme to artificially create demand for these products through government regulations. The purchase of GE’s products is best achieved through a pace dictated by the free market. I’m deeply concerned that higher energy prices will harm: the overall economy, your customers and consumers as well as backfire on GE employees and shareholders. Recent experience in Europe has demonstrated that countries subjected to government mandated carbon dioxide limits have suffered higher energy costs and lower economic growth. As you know, GE relies on a vibrant economy to prosper. With energy prices approaching all time highs, I don’t want to have more of my family’s disposable income going to pay for additional increases. Given these considerations I urge you to cease your lobbying for carbon dioxide limits.
